Labor Day celebrations this year will include hundreds of protests across the country as Trump’s efforts to gut workers' rights, safety, and training programs spark protests nationwide, including in Westport (Signup Link Below).

This week Trump announced a plan to rescind collective bargaining rights from 1 million federal workers, the largest act of union-busting in American history, which the AFL-CIO described as an "all-out attack on workers and unions". Trump’s DOL is also actively working to eliminate federal minimum wage and overtime protections for 3.7 million childcare and home care workers, and the rescission of a minimum wage requirement for disabled workers. American unions face mounting pressure to protect their members from the Trump administration’s immigration raids, cuts in Medicaid services and a weakened National Labor Relations Board.
Trump’s Department of Labor leadership has illegally cut funds for programs that support workers, organizing, worker safety, and provide job training. Under Trump the DOL has reversed commitments to states to build an effective unemployment insurance system; undercut its own ability to fight wage theft, international worker exploitation, and discrimination; and cut DOL capabilities by slashing 20 percent of its staff.

Millions Americans will join #WorkersOverBillionaires protests across the country on Monday including in Westport. You can find more information and signup information here.
