(Right now, on Oct 31, federal judges are ruling that the Trump administration can't suspend SNAP benefits, but this is breaking news and the impact on Connecticut families is unclear. As with many government programs duly approved by Congress in the Trump era, there is still no guarantee that SNAP will not be suspended.)
Supporting Easton Families During the SNAP Benefits Pause
By Devon Wible
Starting November 1st, SNAP benefits will be paused, leaving some Easton families uncertain about how they will put food on their table. Easton Democrats are committed to supporting our neighbors during this difficult time by ensuring that no family in our community goes hungry.
When you come to vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4th, please join our effort to help local families. You can make a direct impact in one of the following ways:
1. Drop off donations at the Easton Democrats’ Tent
We’re collecting both grocery store gift cards (ShopRite, Aldi, and Trader Joe’s are best — $25 increments preferred) and non-perishable food items. Gift cards are preferred because they are easy to distribute.
2. Donate directly to Easton Social Services (located in the Senior Center building)
You can bring gift cards, food items, and/or cash donations to the Social Services Department. If you or someone you know is in need of food assistance, please reach out to Easton Social Services (www.eastonct.gov/social-services) by contacting Daniel Simonelli, Easton’s Social Services Director, directly at 203-268-1137. All inquiries are confidential.
3. Share resources from the following food pantries, community based orgs, and nonprofits, so friends and neighbors know where else to go for help if they need more options:
Connecticut Foodshare - mobile pantry and other locationsÂ
Bridgeport Food Resource Guide - local pantries, food distributions, and soup kitchens
Operation Hope - food pantry and community kitchen
Filling in the Blanks - mobile food pantry for familiesÂ
You matter and you make a difference. Every item, every dollar or gift card, and every share of this message helps our neighbors weather this difficult time. Let’s come together as a community to make sure that everyone in Easton has enough to eat.
Neighbors helping neighbors — that’s the Easton way.
