Statement from the Chair of the Easton Democratic Town Committee in Support of the First AmendmentÂ
The First Amendment is the fundamental Constitutional right of all Americans to freedom of speech. Our democracy was built upon the bedrock principle that every individual, regardless of their political ideology, is entitled to express their views openly, without fear of retribution or censorship. In today’s political climate, we face significant challenges to these rights with increasing efforts to silence dissent, attack the media, suppress the truth, and undermine public trust in our institutions. These actions pose a direct threat to our democracy.
We must ensure that the right to free expression remains protected—especially for those who dissent from the prevailing political agenda. A healthy democracy depends on diverse voices and open debate. We must continue to protect the right to speak, peacefully protest, and engage without fear of retribution.
Democracy is not a passive right, but an active responsibility. So, to everyone who takes action, uses their voice to move democracy forward, demands change, and exercises their rights as a patriotic American, The Easton Democratic Town Committee stands with you. Keep speaking out, keep showing up, and keep pushing for progress. Don’t be bullied into silence out of fear. Demand to be heard. Get louder. Get very, very loud.
Nanette DeWester
Chair, Easton Democratic Town Committee
