This election is about more than keeping the lights on, filling potholes, or balancing the budget. It’s about ensuring Easton has steady, competent leadership to meet both everyday needs and the unprecedented challenges ahead. It’s about protecting democracy, preserving community, and promoting common-sense leadership—right here at home.
The consequences of the last presidential election are painfully clear - the dismantling of democratic norms and growing economic insecurity has ripple effects that reach us here in Connecticut and Easton. This municipal election is our primary line of defense. If we want sane, responsible leadership in Easton, we must show up to elect it. Local elections like ours are the front lines of defending democratic norms. When voices of fear and division dominate town halls, we must elect leaders who will not exploit disinformation, shout down disagreement, or weaponize the law, but instead listen, lead, and serve with integrity.
As historians like Heather Cox Richardson have reminded us:
Our best chance yet to save democracy is the 2025 elections… starting with where we live.
We are at such a moment. In the last three municipal election cycles Easton elected historic Democratic majorities because our Democratic leadership delivers. Under First Selectman David Bindelglass, long-standing issues were resolved: land at South Park was preserved, machine voting made town meetings more accessible, and after decades of delay, our EMS finally received the facility it needs to help them save lives. We need this stable competent leadership to maintain and build upon accomplishments like these. That's why this
election matters so much.
This year’s Democratic slate continues the tradition of capable, responsible leadership. Our candidates are community-minded professionals who bring:
Competence and calm leadership, especially needed on the Board of Selectmen and in the First Selectman’s office to address town-wide challenges and protect essential services
Collaboration over confrontation, working respectfully across boards and commissions, even amid disagreement
Preparedness and compassion, ready to respond to rising costs, healthcare instability, education cuts, and threats to SNAP or vaccine access—real consequences of national Republican policies
Investment in community, fostering unity, transparency, and a government where every Easton resident feels heard and respected.
Easton Democrats have a strong record and a slate of qualified professionals that larger towns would be lucky to have. But good governance depends not just on candidates, but on all of us. We must reject misinformation, personal attacks, and toxic political tactics. Facts must guide our decisions. Thanks to Dave Bindelglass’ weekly newsletters Easton has become a town informed by facts. But progress isn’t permanent. We must vote to protect it.
This year’s municipal election is about keeping Easton grounded, functional, and forward-looking. It’s about electing leaders who understand that local office is not a platform for personal power, but a responsibility to all.
Vote Row A all the way on November 4th.
